Training of Trainers for Capacity building on Intellectual Property Protection and Technology Licensing in Agriculture under Indo-US Agricultural Knowledge Initiative
CCS Haryana Agricultural University was honoured by ICAR to coordinate the organization of three workshops/trainings (CCSHAU, Hisar, Feb.11-13, 2008, NAARM, Hyderabad, Feb.14-16, 2008 and KAU, Thrissur, Feb.18-20, 2008) for Training of Trainers for "Capacity building on Intellectual Property Protection and Technology Licensing in Agriculture under Indo-US Agricultural Knowledge Initiative" for generation of nationwide awareness among the agricultural scientists about the Intellectual Property Management. The programme was successfully organized at all the three locations.
Launching of Nationwide Awareness Programme: The programme was launched by His Excellency Dr.A.K.Kidwai, Governor of Haryana, on 11.02.2008 at Hisar. The programme was presided over by Dr.J.C.Katyal, Vice-Chancellor, CCSHAU, Hisar. Dr.S.Mauria, ADG(IPR & Policy), Dr.Frank Fear, Sr.Assoc.Dean, College of Agriculture, Michigan State University, USA, Dr.R.S.Dalal, Registrar, Dr.R.K.Kashyap, Difrector HRM and Dr.R.B.Srivastava, Programme Coordinator also shared the dais. In this launching ceremony, over 350 of faculty members, officers from Department of Agriculture, Government of Haryana, officers of District administration, ADG IPR and Policy alogwith officers from ICAR, five faculty members from MSU, USA and one senior scientist from TIFAC besides the participants were present. At this occasion the following booklets/CDs/reading material were released by the Chief Guest :-

- Intellectual Property Rights in Agricultural Biotechnology
- Processing and Poultry Meat Products and their Commercialisation
- A CD containing all the information on various facets of IP Management
- Compendium having important lectures
At NAARM, Hyderabad, the programme was inaugurated by Director NAARM, Dr S.M. Ilyas and at KAU, Thrissur by the Vice Chancellor Sri Sh.K.R.Vishwambharan, IAS. In all 128 participants from different ICAR and SAUs were trained. All this material was provided to all the participants at all the three places. Besides, a copy of each of ICAR Guidelines for Intellectual Property Manbagement and Technology Transfer/ Commercialization and IPR Policy & Regulations of Haryana Agril.Unuiversity was also provided to the participants
IP Enabled Exhibition : On the launching day of this programme an exhibition on IP Enabled Technologies was organized which was also inaugurated by His Excellency Governor of Haryana. In this exhibition all the products made by different departments of university particularly Deptt. of Foods & Nutrition, Animal Products Technology, Food Sc. & Technology, Plan Breeding, Agril.Processing & Engineering, Entomology, Biotechnology & Molecular Biology, Animal Biotechnology, Vety. Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine, Clothing & Textiles etc. were displayed. This exhibition impressed the Chief Guest and, dignitaries and participants and made them aware about the initiatives taken by the university.Resource Persons : The resource Persons were the key to the success of this programme at all the three placed. Delivery of Lectures: At all the three places the same schedule of lectures was followed. The lectures on IPR & Technology Transfer in national perspective, honourship and management issues in agricultural research, handling invention to patent management in research institutions, plant variety protection, commercialization and entrepreneurship development, valuation of Intellectual Property, developing negotiation skill for licensing of Intellectual Property, patenting in biotechnology, development of public-private sector partnership and access and benefit sharing in biological research were delivered and interactive discussions were held.

Similarly, at NAARM, Hyderabad Dr.S.M.Ilyas, Director, NAARM was the Chief Guest and Dr.Frank Fear, Assoc.Dean, College of Agriculture, MSU, Dr.June Blalock, USAID and Dr.Murali Nair, Michigan State University and Dr.S.Mauria, ADG(ICAR) were the panel members.
At Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur, the panel was chaired by Dr.S.Mauria, ADG(ICAR) and Dr.Alexndar, Director Research, KAU, Dr.R.K.Kashyap, Director, HRM, CCSHAU, Hisar and Dr.Murali Nair, MSU were the panel members. This panel discussion provided the feedback. The feedback received by us indicates that the scientists have been encouraged and made more aware about the various facets of IPR Management. Fortunately we received generous help from highly experienced resource persons including patent attorneys which made the impact.
